Finding Inspiration

How to find inspiration, when your current world feels uninspiring?

I remember being eight years old, looking out my living room window and finding inspiration in the sights and sounds around me; then turning those experiences into short stories. Then, briefly in my teenage years designing my own clothes, ripping them to shreds and patching them together or covering them with anything that sparkled (anything to make me feel unique).  But somewhere along the way I decided being creative was just going to be a hobby and I needed to be more “practical”.  You know, go to college then find a well-paying 9-5, instead of wholeheartedly following my creative dreams.  What’s that saying?  A starving artist doesn’t get fed… (or something like that).

When I’m having a hard time, I have to hit the pause button and block out all the “noise” and take the time to recharge. Every now and again I have to reset and reflect; to focus on the things that make me happy.  And being creative makes me happy.  Tackling DIY projects, creating artwork, reading stories from fellow bloggers, visiting my favorite design websites, and writing about the things that inspire me.  This is what I love, this is what fuels me, this is how I find inspiration.

I’m currently inspired by the spaces of Lovejoy Designs, a Massachusetts-based interior design firm I recently discovered.  They juxtapose bold, warm colors against neutral, cooler tones and incorporate great furnishings to create sophisticated interiors that are inviting and livable. Here are some of my favorites.

to remain an artist once we grow up.  ~
