The home of Brian and Jill Faherty, owners of Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co., has all the elements of my dream home. Its clean, functional design is a blend of mid-century and modern elements.
A few years ago the couple transformed their 4,700 square-foot Colonial-style home, which had great bones but small rooms, into a 3,200 square-foot family-friendly ranch-style abode with wide hallways, large windows and a central living space that combines the dining room, kitchen, home office and family room. Throughout the home there is a collection of Schoolhouse products, vintage finds and reclaimed wood; which highlight the entryway, mudroom, kitchen island, the home office alcove and a feature wall in the master bedroom.
Although the new house has less space, it functions better than the large house they gave up. “We live in every square inch of this house.” “There’s no wasted space at all.”
